Daft Punk's Alive

After touring the whole world with their seizure inducing pyramid our French house-mixing cyborg overlords (commonly know as Daft Punk) have released a CD/DVD of their antics. Alive is snapshot of Daft's live performances in small easy to carry package (seizure inducing pyramid not included, sadly).

The album opens up Robot Rock into Oh Yeah a great starter track and sets the ground nicely for what's to come. You hear this fusion of the audience's cheer with funk and computerized voices and its all good. All the Daft hits are here: Technologic, Around the World (Harder, Faster, Stronger Mix - OMGWTF!!!111!!!), Crescendolls, Aerodynamic, etc. Saying this album just rocks would be an understatement. By the time Da Funk hits your eardrums you already are deep enjoying Daft doing what their do best: Rock your f'ing *bleep* off.

If there's one shortcoming to this album it would be that they mainly stay with their most recent stuff, but then again, the stuff is good. I mean its Daft Punk doing a set mixing Daft Punk, a mind blowing experience. What more can you say?

I for one welcome our house mixing cyborb overlords and their seizure inducing light show.

Korn's Creep Cover

Let me prephase this by saying that Korn was a good band circa "Follow the leader" album. Matter of fact, I have that album and I listened to it a couple of times (skipping the pointless first 13 tracks). Again, not bad for those times.

So bringing it back to present day now, the other day I was TV zapping when I stumbled across this gem. Korn doing an unplugged session, to join the ranks of Nirvana and the like (OK so maybe Nirvana's unplugged was ten times better, just follow along). At first I thought they were going to do an unplugged version of, I don't know, lets say Got the Life... Not the case, they went into Radiohead territory with a cover of their first "everybody knows it"-hit, Creep.

Now it must be said that Creep isn't one of Radiohead's best works. There's a reason why they don't even play it during their tours anymore. The song was good to get radio play, but it's nowhere near the masterpieces of No Surprises ot Let Down from OK Computer. The Pablo Honey album had the feel of a young band trying to find their own sound. Something they finally accomplished with The Bends. Not to say that the album that carried Creep as its seller was abysmal. It has some good (even better that Creep) songs: Lurgee, Everybody Can Play Guitar come to mind.

Back to Korn. So after watching/hearing Korn do their cover, I got this odd feeling when things don't really go together. That same feeling you get when you see a young 25-years old chick riding shotgun with decaying 70-years old man in his Lambo Gallardo Spider down the street. Maybe its Jonathan's voice that doesn't convey the same feelings Thom's voice does? Could be. It just didn't feel "right".

The saddest part about this it's that all these young Korn-following-kids sub-15 years old won't even know who sang the song originally. Can't blame them tho, when all their music comes from the hell hole MTV is, what can you expect?

A Closer Look Into This..

When I started to look into a new look for Void, I took a look at the many of themes out there for Blogger first. As you may know (or not) because Blogger decided to change how it does things, many of the old themes don't work any more. Blame it on XML, blame on the satellite that beams me home.

So after lot of shuffling through, I stumble across this awesome , minimalistic theme which now is part of Void. Named "Hemingway", this theme is a port of a very popular Wordpress theme now made available to the wonders of Blogger. Perhaps a bit dark and emo for some, regardless I believe it works. It gives Void a more mature look.

At the bottom of the page you will find a random assortment of goodies. On the left, a syndication of my Twitter feed. In the middle, previous posts for your visiting pleassure. Finally on the right, a collection of links to all the other services I tend to use, as well as an archive of entries.

Since the conception of this blog it has gone through many re-designs. I believe this is the best yet. Hopefully you share this sentiment as well. There's somethings that I need to still tweak here and there (add fellow bloggers' links, for example) but everything in due time.

Welcome Back! - Part III

Let me just say, Man it has been a quite a while since I step around these places. More than four months to be exact. Funny how time flies.

In this gigantic (unannounced) hiatus period lot of crap went down. On the real world, I got done with my first year of University. Still gotta take some finals, but that's something to dive into another time. On the internet side of things, I started a Tumblr Blog, dropped more pics into Flickr, and as of couple of days ago I'm Twitterin.

I gotta say I wanted to come back to void sooner. Alas, procrastination at times takes the best of me. Today was the right time to set off to come back "home", and dammit I made it. As with any good comeback, gotta dress up for the occasion. So here we are with a shiny new look. Minimalistic, functional, cool.

My return to void is part of a bigger "corporate branding" plan of sorts. There's going to be a logo for the blog, and I will try spreading this look among the other services. If thing work out, it will look good.

The triumphant return to Void on Christmas, mark you calendars because here we go again for the 2008!

P.S. Merry Xmas to all, a bit late..but hey its the thought that counts :)
