Introducing the 17-in. MacBook Pro.

Going along with what the rumor sites had been talking about, Apple released today for pre-order, the Intel-powered 17-in. MacBook Pro. With a price tag of 2,799 US Dollars, it sets itself in a very competitive spot when compared to the top of the line 15-in MacBook Pro configuration ($2,499.00). Should you be wondering what that 300 Dollar gives you well, here are the specs:

17-inch widescreen display
1680 x 1050 resolution
2.16GHz Intel Core Duo

1GB (single SODIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory
One FireWire 400, one FireWire 800, and three USB 2.0 ports

Putting those specs in perspective with the top of the line 15-in model, you get a bigger screen, a FW 800 port (glad to see it back, as to hush all of you that are saying Apple is ditching the FW interface), and finally a Dual-Layer DVD Burner.

Pretty nice deal if you were considering the top of the line 15-in MacBook Pro, and are willing to put out 300 bucks more.

Overall, is good to see Apple is going full-ahead with their intel transition. Although this machine may not be for everyone, it's only matter of time until we see the replacement for iBook..or MacBook. A system more focused towards every-day tasks and such.

With this MacBook Pro, you are more likely to be seen doing crazy Audio filters in Logic Pro, than re-touching your pet's pic in iPhoto. Not that you couldn't do it, but we all know that theres a Pro in the name for a reason ;).
